Performance OVER

All four performances of "Closure" at The Cochrane Theatre are officially over. It was a really long and tiring week prepping for the shows and now they're finally finished! Friends and family came to the show and were extremely complimentary of the film and I'm so proud of what Sabrina, Gareth, Richard and myself achieved. It has definitely been my favorite project at Central St Martins and although I can't watch the film anymore because of how sick I am of the sound of my own voice, it will always be there for me to look back on.

Unfortunately I did not get very good photo's from the show because I was up in the sound box and the projector was in the way. So what I do have I will post on here until the professional ones are released.

Now I have two weeks before my final assessment. These two weeks will be devoted to printing/cropping/cutting/glueing/writing/cramming/getting stressed and nervous.

Why split screen?

This is another example of a film that uses this idea of split screen. The idea is to show two characters in two different scenario's on the same screen at the same time. This clip is taken from the film "500 Days of Summer" showing the development of time with the two main characters.

The reason we decided to use split screen for "Crossed Wires" is because the entire film shows two people on the phone to one another, with nothing else going on. This could be really boring and also really confusing for an audience to watch the action jumping back and forth. There for we decided to have the action going on with both characters on screen the whole time.

This could be a little tedious and get boring quite quickly, so to create a sense of the characters lives, we've mixed shots of their belongings/actions etc with shots of them talking. Gareth took a wide variety of long shots and close ups, which gives the film more depth and makes it visually exciting.

This is an example of how we used split screen:

Notes from pre-lim assessment

COCHRANE/FILM

Subject knowledge:
·      Find examples of people that use split screen.
·      Find writers that act in their own plays.

·      Why split screen?
·
·       Screen film for an audience to see (outside of Cochrane) and get feed back- experimentation.
·      Show experiments with editing.
·      Get public feed back from blog .

Collaborating with fine art:
·      Talk about journey from beginning with them to end.
·      Talk about how the fine art students wanted to perform and we didn’t want this to re-tract from the film- that’s were the collaboration dizzolved.
·      We were running out of time and couldn’t keep experimenting- had to start with film.

·      48 hour film festival.
·      Story board with stills from film.
·      Talk about my particular roles:

Writer:
·      Pressure to get script written in time.
·      3 drafts.

Actor:
·      I didn’t want too many rehearsals because the context of the film is very natural, so I wanted to make the re-actions seem natural.

Director:
·      I was given the best advice by Dave Elsey which was to always make a decision. Even if you don’t really know the answer, never say you don’t know or aren’t sure. Be confident in your decision and stick with it.
·      It was very hard to be  the actor and director when I was acting because I couldn’t direct myself from the same point of view like when I was directing Richard.

·      Why did Sabrina and I choose to collaborate?
