Closure

"Closure" was the decided theme for this performance. This is because not only is The Cochrane theatre (where the performance will take place) closing, but also the current Central St Martins buildings in Farringdon, Holborn and Charing Cross are closing and a brand new Kings Cross building complex will be the new home to Central St Martins for students as of September 2011. So the theme is not only appropriate for us Performance Design and Practice students as our time at CSM comes to a close, but also for the Fine Art students whose time in Charing Cross ends. 

Sabrina and I have worked in the past on a film project with the Drama Centre MA students from Back Hill. We worked as apart of the art team in prop sourcing, set making/dressing and costume. Sabrina also has a lot of work experience outside of CSM in art directing and I have a great passion for writing and directing. We decided to collaborate for this project as we know how each other works quite well and want to create something which uses both of our strengths. This is when we came up with the idea to create a short film to be screened as apart of the performance and projected onto some kind of set. 

In our second meeting with the fine art students and our tutor Peter Bond we pitched this idea to the rest of the group and asked who ever was interested in working with us to join us. Alexandra from our course was interested in the idea of creating a big structure as set that we could project onto. With members of the fine art students also joining us, a group was formed to start brain storming ideas. We were very lucky to have landed ourselves with some really enthusiastic and talented fine art students.

This blog will act as a sort of virtual sketch book with examples of idea's, inspiration's and experiments.
